This film takes the inheritance of Tiancheng Yuan in Shanxi Province, which is rich at the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, as the main line, and reproduces the century-old rise and fall of the financial industry of"Wall Street in China". The story runs through the memory of a crippled old man: master Kang (Zhang Tielin), the head of Tiancheng Yuan, has four sons, but the eldest is born deaf and mute, and the second is reckless and aggressive and paralyzed in an accident. the fourth is crazy because his new wife was robbed and died in Tianjin, leaving only the third (Guo Fucheng) to inherit the family business of his ancestors. But Kang San has a deep resentment against his father because he took away his former lover (played by Hao Lei).Master Kang hoped that she could add Ding to the Kang family and inherit the incense, but she would not obey it to the death. Mrs. Kang has expressed her heart to Kang San many times, but the latter has always been courteous to her stepmother and dared not take a step beyond. 本片以清末民初富可敵國的山西天成元票號的傳承為主線，再現了“中國華爾街”金融業的百年興衰。故事以一個風燭殘年老人的回憶貫穿全片：天成元掌門人康老爺（張鐵林 飾）膝下共有四子，但老大天生罹患聾啞殘疾，老二生性莽撞好鬥在一次意外中下肢癱瘓，老四因新婚嬌妻在天津被劫慘死而瘋癲，只剩下老三（郭富城 飾）可以繼承祖宗家業。但康三卻對父親抱有深深的怨恨，原因是他奪走了自己昔日戀人（郝蕾 飾）。康老爺希望她可以為康家添丁，繼承香火，但是她誓死不從。康夫人曾多次對康三表露心跡，但後者始終對繼母禮讓三分，不敢越雷池半步。康老爺見北京分號戴掌櫃才智過人，遂恩威並用計賺邱掌櫃（丁志誠 飾），令其死心塌地輔佐少主，然而康三心中卻另有打算……本片根據成一的小說《白銀谷》改編。
